Smart-Its: a Platform for Activating Everyday Objects Michael Beigl, Christian Decker (U. Karlsruhe), Albrecht Schmidt, Hans Gellersen (U. Lancaster) The idea of Smart-Its is to provide a platform for turning passive objects into networked smart artefacts. In Smart-Its not only sensing is distributed but interpretation of what is sensed. Smart-Its are not first-class devices but always attached to a physical entity to which it adds a digital self. We will demonstrate specific Smart-Its applications and aim also to demonstrate on-the-fly augmentation of physical objects on site.
